Pilates for
slipped disc
in the lower back

A slipped disc in the lower back can be a source of intense pain and restrictions that affect daily life and often reduce quality of life enormously. A herniated disc is usually followed by a very lengthy period of treatment. Sometimes involving surgery, strong medication, rest and physiotherapy. Nevertheless, it is not uncommon for chronic back pain to remain.

The main causes of chronic back pain and slipped discs are usually weak back muscles, a lack of flexibility, poor posture, lack of exercise, pregnancy or injury. However, these causes cannot simply be treated with medication or rest. For a pain-free back, you have to become active yourself.

“The Pilates training helps to create a very good body feeling and my back! I feel a few millimetres taller after every lesson. Walking and standing upright is visibly easier.” Gunnar, (42)

Keep moving:
pain-free
with Pilates.

According to a clinical study by the University of Sao Paolo, published in the ‘Ärzte Zeitung’, Pilates can significantly alleviate and treat low back pain.

The participants in the study were able to reduce their pain score by more than half after just six weeks, with only 2 hours of Pilates per week. An investment in time that pays off twice over. The integration of breathing techniques and conscious relaxation not only calms the body, but also the mind and increases general well-being.

Why does Pilates
helps with chronic
back pain?

Activating the ‘powerhouse’ with each exercise, which includes the abdominal muscles, pelvic floor and deep back muscles, strengthens and relaxes the strained lower back area.

Strengthening the abdominal muscles in particular plays a significant role in relieving pressure on the lower back: a strong core stabilises the spine and reduces the strain on the intervertebral discs. Targeted exercises with spring resistance activate and strengthen the deep-lying muscle groups and significantly improve movement patterns. The result of regular Pilates classes is a stronger posture and greater mobility, which reduces strain and incorrect posture in the long term.

A strong back –
Pilates Reformer Training.

Pilates training includes a wide range of equipment. The Pilates Reformer training is one of the Pilates equipment elements and is an ideal way to start after a slipped disc in the lower back. The gliding, dynamic movements build up strong back muscles in a way that is easy on the joints. The individually adjustable spring resistance helps your body throughout the movements. Each exercise stretches the various muscle groups and relieves tension. After just a few Pilates lessons, you will feel relief and stronger, more flexible and revitalized.
