Strength and Mobility – Why Both Go Hand in Hand
Many people believe they have to choose between one or the other. But our bodies work quite differently. Find out in this article why these
two aspects are so closely connected.

Bringing the
Body into Balance
Only the harmonious interplay of strength and mobility enables us to move freely, with stability and ease. This is precisely one of the great strengths of the Pilates method: it views the body as a functional whole. Rather than training individual muscle groups in isolation, each exercise combines strength, mobility, breathing, and body awareness. The goal is not only to become stronger, but also to develop a greater awareness of your own body and move with more stability and ease overall.
Balance is
important.
A strong body is not automatically a mobile body – and this is exactly where the combination of strength training and Pilates becomes so valuable.
Strength training gives the body power and resilience. Pilates complements this by creating the space to use that strength in a controlled, fluid way, with good movement quality and stability. By specifically working on mobility, core strength, and posture, movements can become freer while also feeling stronger and more powerful.
Strength Training
and Pilates
Two methods, one shared goal. Strength training and Pilates take different approaches – and that’s exactly why they complement each other so well. Traditional strength training focuses on building muscle strength and muscle mass. It strengthens the body, supports bone health, and becomes an increasingly important foundation for staying active as we age.
The Pilates method focuses on movement quality. Strength is always developed in combination with mobility, stability, breathing, and coordination.
A simple example: Someone may be able to lift heavy weights at the gym and still struggle to maintain a stable, upright posture or raise their arms freely overhead. The muscles are strong, but joint control, flexibility, and body awareness are not working together optimally.
This is exactly where Pilates complements strength training. It improves movement quality, strengthens the deep stabilizing muscles, and promotes healthy posture. Movements become more controlled, fluid, and efficient – with noticeable benefits both in everyday life and during sports.

Movement
with Quality
At REALZ Pilates, we work with the classical Pilates equipment system – Reformer, Tower Unit Wall, Chair, Pedi Pole, and Mat. The springs on the equipment provide both resistance and support, allowing you to develop strength, mobility, and body control simultaneously. In small groups of up to 5 people, as well as in solo and duo sessions, we provide individual guidance tailored to each person. Because every body moves differently.
Pilates does not replace strength training – and strength training does not replace Pilates. Together, these two methods provide the foundation for a strong, flexible, and healthy body that can move with ease and enjoyment.
